Employee Relations

Employees are encouraged to resolve workplace disputes through their immediate supervisors, directors/department heads and vice presidents/deans. If disputes cannot be resolved through these administrative channels, the Employee Relations (ER) Office is available to assist employees with conflict resolution and the development of positive working relationships. The ER Office counsels employees with job related concerns, facilitates with mediation services, investigates problems and recommends solutions. The ER Office is responsible for administering the university's non-discrimination grievance policies and procedures.

Information shared with the ER Office is maintained in the strictest confidence and will not be shared with other parties without permission. The following circumstances are exceptions to the maintenance of confidential information:

  1. If there is reason to believe that an individual's safety, health and/or welfare will be harmed by failure to disclose to appropriate officials;
  2. If there are allegations involving Civil Rights issues, relevant information will be shared with the NMSU Office of Institutional Equity;
  3. If information about criminal activity or behavior is disclosed;
  4. If a violation of university policy is disclosed;
  5. If a formal written grievance is filed with the Employee Relations Office;
  6. If it is necessary to defend a claim against the Employee Relations Office; and/or
  7. If a court order to release information is served.
